Например, цена или заработная плата, поднявшись однажды под воздействием какого-либо экономического фактора временного характера, уже не опустится до прежнего уровня после прекращения действия этого фактора. Такой рост может дать эффект кругов от брошенного в воду камня по всей экономике, что вызовет всплеск инфляции (inflation).
